Clinton’s New Stated Reason To Stay In Race: Karl Rove

A8076A_md.jpg

Jo’s Cafe
Hi all, I haven’t heard from Jo since late yesterday morning. As she may still be dealing with Otis , I’m setting up open trackbacks for this morning.

The enemy of my enemy is…? Senator Hillary Clinton — just like any other Democrat — has used comparing someone’s campaign tactics to Karl Rove as the ultimate political insult. But — in yet a new somersault in a campaign year when candidates are doing so many somersaults that they could win red ribbons in the Olympics — Clinton is citing an analysis by you-know-who as reason to stay in the Democratic nomination race:

Hillary Clinton defended her reasoning for staying in the presidential race Monday afternoon by pointing out that Karl Rove’s analysis shows her to be the strongest candidate against John McCain in November.

“There has been a lot of analysis about which of us is stronger to win against Sen. McCain, and I believe I am the stronger candidate,” said Clinton, repeating a line from her stump speech.

Then she veered from her usual argument.

“Just today I found some curious support for that position when one of the TV networks released an analysis done by – of all people – Karl Rove, saying that I was the stronger candidate,” said Clinton. “Somebody go a hold of his analysis and there it is.”

Clinton was referring to electoral maps drawn up by Karl Rove’s consulting firm that were obtained by ABC and forecast her currently leading McCain in the electoral college by 53 votes (259-206), while Obama trails McCain by 17 (238-221).

Will this argument work? The argument that superdelegates should tilt to Clinton because Rove’s analysis shows her to be a stronger candidate might not sit well with some superdelegates, Democrats and even pundits.

Carfinder

And conspiracy theory addicts will have a field day, as Los Angeles Times blogger Andrew Malcomb notes in a post titled: “Breaking News: Hillary Clinton now thinks Karl Rove’s a political genius”:

O.K., now let’s see what this is really about. So Rove, the Republican Svengali of modern American politics, is really saying that Clinton is stronger because he wants Democrats to pick her because he secretly knows that she really isn’t stronger and that will backfire and actually help the GOP’s McCain.

Or, no, wait. Maybe Rove is really saying Clinton is stronger now because he knows Democrats won’t believe him so then they’ll do the opposite and choose Obama, which is really what Rove wants because he knows McCain is stronger against the freshman senator.

Clinton’s pointing to Rove as a reason to stay in shows the nature of partisan politics where demons can instantaneously lose their horns and regain instant respectability. Or people generally considered reasonable can be instantaneously given pitchforks.

Why, it seems like only yesterday when Clinton was seen as a sure thing that Rove was going after her (just like he now goes after Obama).

In January, Rove made a sarcastic remark about Clinton’s take in the Michigan primary.

Last summer, when Clinton seemed the “ineviitable” candidate, Rove called her a “fatally flawed” candidate.

Karl Rove was even doing Bill Clinton impersonations on Bill O’Reilly’s Fox News Show.

Hillary Clinton, in turn, said Rove “obssesses” about her.

But all that’s ancient history now, because Rove’s research shows she’s the strongest candidate.

Cover your ears, quickly, because the loud sound of the stampede of superdelegates wanting to endorse her due to the man Democrats love to hate could break your eardrums.

(Or not..)

Gorgeous, Delicious, Deculture!

i’ve come to mind that i haven’t been indulging myself in anime related fandom lately. granted, this is mostly due to my mcat studies and other misc. quirks in my resilience, but the other reason is due to the lack of “quality” shows that’s been coming out lately. i remember retire from in high school, i normally kept up with give 5-8 shows per week. how i was talented to watch all of them and up till be able to do source in school is a wonder to me now, but that’s how it was back then. now, i’m only fixated with 2-4 shows at most. the peddle today is so saturated that it’s extremely much beyond ridiculous. what’s worst is the terrible blue blood and bandwagon trends that follow such saturations. in the past, we had “manly man” shows like the original u.c. gundam series and macross along with a good dosage of moderate physical force and what not. we also had proper girly shows like sailor moon and everything that followed the magical girl formula and then some. all of these shows were absolutely fantastic (at least to me anyway). the quality is usually shown in it’s story telling and nice consummation with the animation. today is a different piece. in the past, there was usually a delicate range of animes that came out pandering to various genres. fashionable we induce bandwagon attempts to plainly sell to the audience. i would normally be struck by no complaint more than such business decisions except the point the companies are going beside their investment is perfectly plain terrible. i remember when the h-game adaptations really got its boost thanks to kyoto animation on their fitting with air. with the achievement of air came other similar attempts for h-game adjustment. some were good like shuffle! while most were just ashamed like semi-lune love. i at rest remember the infamous cabbage incident from the show. seeking the past year or so, most of the shows coming out were h-game related, and most of them were poorly made. as for the shows that weren’t trying to go with the moe plan, some had varying degree of prosperity. of seminar, there were a few gems here and there that i fully adored like ebon lagoon and seirei no moribito, but to the most part, finding good shows (by my standards) have been relatively hard-hearted lately. even with the shows i am watching now, i don’t intend to buy all of them whenever they come over to the states. as a note, here are the shows i’m currently watching.code geass r2daughter of twenty faceskamen no maid guymacross frontiernabari no ou (if i’m bored)vampire knight (if i’m bored)i have this number cheaply stuck in my top now. hold responsible you macross. until next time!

RIAA to Pay $108K in Attorney’s Fees in File-Sharing Case

(* Source: Mark Hefflinger *)

Mark reports…

The major record labels that sued Tanya Andersen (Atlantic v. Andersen) for infringing their copyrights on file-sharing networks, then eventually dropped their case, have been ordered by a federal court in Oregon to pay her nearly $108,000 in attorneys fees and costs, P2PNet reports. The sum is the largest attorneys’ fee award so far to be levied against the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in its legal campaign against file-swappers.

“This will assist in levelling the playing field in other cases,” Andersen’s lawyer, Lory Lybeck, told p2pnet.

Tally Hall

i’m not sure what has happened, but for some reason maria and i have had opportunities to go out and act a stress a little more than we normally do. first our vegas trip a couple weeks ago, and now this week we did something we haven’t done in years: we went to a rock concert. i believe the last one we went to was polyphonic spree a few years ago, but that was an outdoor “concert in the park” slightly snooty relationship. this was a concert in a club. much like some of the smaller venues where i used to monkey business with my band back in “the day.”anyway, the band we went to ride out is tally hall. a band we’ve enjoyed for several years, which, if i had to report them, are a cross between they might be giants (“birdhouse in your soul”) and barenaked ladies (“one week”). they have a very smart sense of humor, some brilliant songwriting, and some really great balance-laden songs. my relation jeffrey went to one of their shows a handful months ago in california (where he got me a shirt that he had signed by the band) and told me it was really significant and then later fake me be sure they were scheduled to flexibility in dallas.(“good day” video by tally hall)so monday night maria and i drove out to dallas because the show at the house of blues. apparently there’s two venues there. this was the smaller side venue for the less-momentous acts. but that was okay, because the inconsequential venue and rather small crowd actually made for a remarkably comfortable expo. one of the reasons neither maria nor i go to concerts much anymore is because many of them are just so uncomfortable and flashy.enumeration hall were really crucial and very funny. their songs are often very elaborate, and they were able to ship them all to a live act, which was tuneful stimulating. there are five members and all but the drummer sing and/or harmonize in each song. i undeniably taste bands that can absolutely sing and not only just play loudly.

A Blast from Hoboken’s Past

may 14, 2008i got an email from a reader who absolutely knows hoboken. here’s what he wrote me:i came from hoboken. i’m 69 now and i came across your place by mistake …i’m inclined …..yes hoboken has changed …its not the quiet town it used to be back in the 1950s. as a progeny boy there was some great hangouts to have fun in, but they are all gone now. i’m not talking about the bars…there was always plenty of them…i’m talking apropos the ice cream parlor hangouts…such as able’s across from sacred heart acadamy on washington concourse, jack-o dine’s on the corner by demarest h.s., janette’s on original and washington street. biggie’s i think is still there but its not the samethey were the fun centers of our schoolgirl. famed deejay allen freed rock and rocking shows at the fabian theater, destroyed, now a supermarket ..the nature and values all vanished it seems ….the girls were proper gorgeous ..i’m sure time has changed that, straight a littlei still beget my girl friend i met in able’s in 1958…she was a sacred pity acadamy grad i was the disgraceful jacket greased haired boiling rodder that you did not destitution your daughter to go outdoors with ..but you cant evaluator a book by its cover …i was gushy and charming furtively thenand soundless am…then came the viet nam cross swords…well my female angel married me in st. ann’s church and insane we went…to battle together…looking back to hoboken with fond memories…4 kids 12 grandchildren later…we subdue love hoboken…its memories, that is.looking at the two pictures: the first one is in effrontery first of st. matthew’s church on 9th and hudson circle. not in the picture is the hill to the right leading up stevens campus we Euphemistic pre-owned to call dead man’s hill…sledding in the winter (just a guess) …the other with the steps ( we used to call a stoop ) is either on car park avenue or hudson street…in the just the same area…i only lived a few blocks from there 924 garden street. stevens forum and girl scouts were exact next door to me, in the present climate it’s a parking garage.he’s right about the places he identified in the pictures. hudson is the boulevard and he settle accounts knew the block. gush, why wouldn’t he? he has a pretty good memory, possibly not another . jill rate, but probably as suspend as i am. i love his emails — he’s sent me more with a a barrel of enchanting info about frank sinatra (whose the row-boat adornments will be on turner classic movies tonight, a real microcosm of the 1950′s)…my pen pal’s writing design is a little contagious…gotta watch that…but it’s a great read anyway. don’t you agree?i’ll share more of his snapshots of familiar hoboken from outdated to previously. i can see him on occasion in his leather jacket with his greased hair, a boy that mama wouldn’t let near the strain. luckily during mama my house was in montrose, alabama, and the wild ones from hoboken didn’t grasp how to find it.

AV top 200 redux

I shouldn’t post this one either, but…

In response to some convincing opinions offered in the comments to the previous post, I have made lots of (mostly very small) tweaks to the system. Offensive linemen have had their values slightly increased, the importance of the running game (relative to the passing game) has been increased just a smidge. The value of making a pro bowl or an all-pro team has been increased for cornerbacks (relative to safeties) and decreased for linebackers (relative to defensive linemen).

Here is take two:

1 reggie ivory 159 2 jerry rice 154 3 dan marino 148 4 bruce smith 143 5 brett favre 141 6 rod woodson 140 7 john elway 136 8 anthony munoz 135 9 peyton manning 132 lawrence taylor 132

NOTE: the author of the algorithm that generated this list does not agree with the entirety of the list. He, in fact, acknowledges that it’s obviously wrong in spots. He does think it’s pretty respectable, given the difficulty of comparing players across positions and eras using only objective data. He also thinks it’ll give us something to talk about here in May. Also, please read the previous post.
